The Axion DMX solution is primarily targeted at both tunable whites and RGB colors, but because it interacts using the DMX512 protocol it will also support many other commercial devices such as motors, lasers, smoke machines, and more.

Once the controller has been connected to the network, you may either leave it DHCP, configure a DHCP reservation, or assign a static IP address. If you are integrating with Control4, the SDDP protocol is fully supported and the device will show up in the “Discovered” tab of Composer Pro. If you are using any other control system, it is recommended you either set a static IP or DHCP reservation in your router.
Operation
Factory Reset
To perform a factory reset, simply hold in the reset button, then apply power. This will reset the password to ‘password’ and revert the IP settings back to DHCP. It will also clear the Wi-Fi network association if one had been set.
Password & Username
There is no username, leave this field blank. The default password is “password”. It is highly recommended that you change the default password via the local UI to maintain the utmost security. This same password is used when integrating to the control system and should be updated in any drivers or modules you are using.
FAQs
How many devices can a single Axion DMX Controller integrate with?
Each Axion DMX controller can operate 512 channels. This means it could control 512 unique white LED strips, 170 RGB strips, or 128 RGBW strips. Each address is simply another control point.
Can I link multiple DMX endpoints together?
Yes! That’s the great thing about DMX; you will notice that almost every decoder or device has a DMX input and DMX output. Simply use a CAT5 (or any category cable) to link from one output to the input of another device. This helps provide for an extremely modular system.
Can I have more than one Axion DMX Controller in a project?
Absolutely, there is no limit to the number of controllers you can add. We have designed all the control system integration drivers and modules such that you can add multiple per project.
Does this work as a “centralized” solution?
A centralized solution is where the equipment is in one “central” location such as a closet, basement, rack, backer board, low voltage panel, etc. The Axion DMX Controller works perfectly in this circumstance and is preferred. A typical install includes mounting the Axion Controller to a back board, next to the necessary amount of Axion DMX Decoders all linked via CAT5 cables. Then, run speaker or security wire to your final locations of the lights/LED strips.
Can I use speaker or security wire to connect the lights or LED strips?
Make sure you are using wire that has enough connectors for each unique channel plus power. For example, if using an RGB LED strip, you would need a 4-conductor wire, one for each color plus power.
Be aware of voltage drop! The longer the run, the thicker (or lower number) gauge wire you use will help prevent flickering or light level inconsistencies across the LED strip. We recommend 16/6 or 18/6 speaker or general purpose wire.
What power supply do I use?
The Axion DMX controller is either powered via PoE (perfect for rack or centralized solutions) or a 48V PoE injector if using it in wireless mode.
The Axion DMX decoders are all powered via the same 12/24-volt power supply used to power the LED lights.
Some DMX LED lighting solutions have built in power supplies and even a decoder. In those situations, simply plug in the fixture and connect the DMX input to the Axion DMX Controller’s DMX output.
LED strips. It’s possible to power all of them, especially in a centralized install, using a single 12/24-volt power supply. First, verify if your light strips are all 12 or 24 volts. Next, add together the recommended power consumption or rating for each LED strip length you are connecting, account for voltage drop over longer runs, and purchase a power supply that meets the minimum number you calculated plus 10%.
Remember! Low voltage DC power supplies will only provide the amount of current needed so you can’t over-specify the output. Bigger is better and allows for future expansion.
What order are the channels?
No matter what LED light strip or fixture you are using, they should be wired in RGBW format. EG: if DMX start address is 12, then 12 = Red, 13 = Green, 14 = Blue, 15 = White

Quick Start Guide
Add the controller driver to project (or double-click on the device in the Discovered tab)
If you didn’t use SDDP, enter the IP address under the Network section of the Connections tab.
Add as many “Axion DMX RGBW Dimmer” drivers as you have independent lighting loads.
EG: If you have a 3 channel DMX decoder controlling 3 individual white LED strips, you will add 3 dimmer drivers to control each independently.
EG: If you have a 4 channel DMX decoder with 1 LED strip that has Red, Green, Blue and White, then you would just add 1 dimmer
These drivers use the RGBW color system. Red, Green, Blue and White use 8 bits each, which have integer values from 0 to 255 where 0 indicates that color is turned off and 255 means the color is at full brightness.
On the Dimmer driver, first enter the beginning DMX address of the device you are integrating.
Then, select the type of device you are controlling from the drop down.

Starts an effect with a given interval (how long for each color) for a given amount of time. NOTE! The default duration of 0 will run forever and only stop when you issue a Stop Effect command. Only one effect can be active at a time.

Quick Start Guide
Add the controller driver in Configurator under the lighting category as a lighting interface.
On the controller driver, first enter the system password if it differs from the factory default.
Enter a value for the ramp rate for controlling the lighting devices.
Finally, enter the IP Address and apply all settings.
Next add light objects and follow the guidelines below to configure each light load
